Recommended Background: Satisfactory completion of Year 9 Art A or Year 9 Art B.

Course Outline:
By the end of Year 10, students evaluate how representations communicate artistic intentions in artworks they make and view. They evaluate artworks and displays from different cultures, times and places. They analyse connections between visual conventions, practices and viewpoints that represent their own and others’ ideas. They identify influences of other artists’ on their own artworks.

Students manipulate materials, techniques and processes to develop and refine techniques and processes to represent ideas and subject matter in their artworks.

Topics Included:
Students gain an understanding of the following:
  • Exploring ideas and improvising with ways to represent ideas
  • Manipulating and applying the elements/concepts with intent
  • Developing and refining understanding of skills and techniques
  • Structuring and organising ideas into form
  • Sharing artworks through display
  • Analysing and reflecting upon intentions
  • Responding to and interpreting artworks

With an emphasis on 3 dimensional practices, students develop their knowledge of how ideas and intentions are communicated in and through visual arts. They build on and refine their knowledge, understanding and skills focusing on representations, practices and viewpoints.

Assessment:
A range of practical and theoretical tasks to demonstrate the development of concepts and ideas, exploration of media and experimentation, practical application, analysis and responding.
