Other Advice: English A at Stage 1 is a general course for most students. It will prepare students for Semester 2 Stage 1 pre English Literary Studies C, Stage 1 English D or Stage 1 Essential English (Pathways). This will enable students to meet SACE requirements when completed with another semester of English, if satisfactorily completed.

Course Outline:
The study of English provides students with a focus for informed and effective participation in education, training, the workplace and their personal environment.

Students read, view, write and compose, listen and speak, and use information and communication technologies in appropriate ways for different purposes and audiences.

This subject leads to both English and Essential English at Stage 2 from 2017. There is an emphasis on responding to texts, creating texts and completing an intertextual study. Students critically and creatively engage with a variety of types of texts including novels, film, media, poetry and drama texts.
